I'm not sure why, but at this point, I feel more concerned with what my bridesmaids will be wearing rather than what I will be wearing. I have this ideal dress in my mind, and that seems to be the only place I can find it. It is pretty simple really, I want a strapless a-line, tea-length dress in a raspberry color and a nice (but not shiny) fabric. My first love was this little number from J.Crew:
This color is called "Wild Peony" and well, it is just too purple. The color is all wrong. I'm also afraid that the fabric is too stretchy and it will give that "uniboob" effect. You know what I'm talking about. Nobody wants that in their wedding pictures. I love the simplicity of this design, although it is a little long. So, I'm afraid this one is a no go. Another J.Crew dress that I love is this one:
I know. I it obviously not strapless. But, everything else about it is perfect. I love the color and I love the length. This one is definitely still in the running. The only thing that worries me about J.Crew dresses is that most of them are not available in stores.. and ordering them sight unseen seems like a BAD idea.. even if it is J.Crew. The next dress is from Alfred Angelo:
Okay, so this one is almost exactly what I described. But.. I don't know how I feel about that bunching thing on the side. It almost looks wrinkled? I do love the length, and the fabric seems uniboob-proof. I think this length gives everyone "fierce" legs. It also costs less than $150.
So, as of now, these are my options. If anyone happens to run into my perfect dress while searching for your own, I will love you forever if you send me a link. If you're having this problem as well, let me know and I will try to do the same for you as I scour dress websites daily!
Oh, and P.S. - Sorry for the ranting, and for the use of the word (?) uniboob.

The J Crew dress in the middle is so cute! Have you tried Ann Taylor? That is where I got the bridesmaids dresses for my wedding.
Have a nice week!
I love the J. Crew dress.
Love,
Your bridesmaid
I wouldn't worry about ordering them online. I ordered quite a few during my BM dress shopping. We didn't go the JCrew route (I went with ones from Ann Taylor), but they were a dream to work with. If you order in store the shipping is free. We ordered a couple of sizes
to try on and a few fabric swatches. I loved the dresses, but unfortunately I really wanted navy dresses and I thought the Jcrew navy was too dark. I didn't have a problem returning them in store at all. They have a dedicated customer service line for the special occasions line as well.
Definitely don't rule them out. Using AT or Jcrew means that your girls can try on each size until they find a good fit, not getting measured only to find that when it comes it you need like $100 in alterations. Also they have several style in each color so you can have each bm pick the one that works best for them.
HTH!!
Have you looked at ariadress.com, Watters.com and Thread?
I found 2 that I love at Aria and actually found a pattern for $3 that is nearly identical to what I want. Dupioni silk is only about $13/yard and dresses require 2-3 yards, so we're having mine custom made. It's cheaper in the long run...that may be something for you to look into as we have 12 mo and 3 wks to go! ;-)
The Lindsey dress is sold every year - b/c it'a a fabu dress! I have it in black. It is so flattering on and such a classic. Plus EVERYONE does strapless now so I say why not be different? They are all pretty though!
And I agree with Preppy Peshke - don't worry about online ordering. Returning is super easy and I think alterations are free in store for the girls - which is huge when you're talking bridesmaid gowns!
i actually like all of them. i wouldn't refuse to wear any of them which you should be happy about. if i had to pick my favs in order i would pick #1, #3, #2. just my personal opinion. hey missy, i noticed that you signed yours from "your bridesmaid." i think since i'm the maid of honor i should be able to just wear my wedding dress down the aisle. i can wear whatever shoes you want me to though. just a thought.
