The Engagement Story

One of the lovely ladies that reads my blog asked how we got engaged. I decided I would tell the whole story for everyone to read, because, well, I love it! So here goes....It all started when I got in my car to go to work on a very cold Friday morning. As soon as I got in, I saw some pictures that Ryan had put in my car. One was a picture of a tropical wedding cake I saw in a magazine that I liked, and the other was a picture of an elderly couple holding hands that I took in Hawaii. I called to ask about the pictures and of course he didn't answer. So, I text messaged him to ask about them and he said "Oh, I just like them." Well, this was my first tip that something was fishy.
So, I went on to work and got called to the front of the office at about 1:00 in the afternoon. There was a delivery of beautiful all white flowers just for me. The card said "I picked this color for a very important reason. Love, Ryan." So I called and text messaged Ryan to say thank you, and of course he did not respond to either one!

Well, at about 4:30, I text messaged him to ask if he could pick up some alterations for me on his way home. He said no, and asked if I could be home by 5:30. Well, of course I said yes!! So, I left work at about 5:00, picked up my alterations and got home around 5:30. I walked into my house to a fire burning in the fireplace, some candles lit and our dog, Carter, running around with a note on his collar. Ryan was no where to be found. Here's the note:

Well, this totally confused me, but I went and got ready anyway! When I came out, Ryan was waiting for me and said that we were going to sit on the couch and watch something. We had been watching DVD's of the TV show "Lost" recently, so I asked if we were going to watch Lost. He said no. Well, I sat down and Ryan played a DVD that he had made that told our whole love story from the time we met, to the wonderful memories and trips we took together, and so on. There were tons of pictures, and the soundtrack was one of our favorite songs. "Loving Wings" by Dave Matthews Band. Well, the DVD went on to talk about our future, and as it ended, Ryan got down on his knee and (nervously) asked me to marry him! He gave me the most beautiful ring I have ever seen.... and of course, I said YES!!

Well, I cried (which Ryan foreshadowed, since he told me not to wear makeup!) and we had a champagne toast. After a little while, he said I could finish getting ready because we actually were going out to dinner. I asked where we were going, and he said he couldn't tell me because that was part of the surprise! Well, we went downtown to one of my favorite restaurants and as soon as we got upstairs, I found that my whole family was there to celebrate with us! Ryan had asked them all come to Lexington (about a 2 hour drive from where they live) to surprise me. This was SUCH a great surprise!! So we had dinner and celebrated with my family, and made about a hundred phone calls to share our good news. It was the perfect day!

What a sweet guy you have, he must be pretty creative. Your ring is absolutely gorgeous, btw.

We are glad Ryan chose you, Annie. He definitely more of a romantic than his dad. We had broken up and I went to his house one night because of something a friend had said. The next thing I know, he is on his knees proposing. I thought this guy is nuts. (All I wanted was to get back together) So i left. The next day he called me at work and asked me to come to dinner.
The kids were playing in the backyard and again, he gets down on his knees in the kitchen, holds my hand and proposes. I don't know what came over me but I said yes. Then he goes back and stirs the spaghetti sauce! Calls the kids in and shares the news. Yes, Annie, you got a romantic guy. Darnell (a future mother in law)
